Employees who regularly provide long-term care for a dependant can benefit from several types of support.<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\r\n\n\n

It\u2019s not easy to reconcile work responsibilities with the daily care of a dependent elderly person. Fortunately, there are support programs in place for employees who are regular caregivers for a family member who are no longer independent.<\/p>\n <\/div>\r\n<\/div>\r\n\n\n

Carer\u2019s leave<\/h2>\r\n <\/div>\r\n\n\n
\r\n

Since 30 September 2020, employees who take leave to assist a person who has a disability or is dependent can receive a daily allowance (allocation journali\u00e8re du proche aidant<\/em>, abbreviated as AJPA), the amount of which is equal to the allowance paid to parents caring for a child with a serious illness. Since 1 January 2022, the AJPA is \u20ac58.59 per day or \u20ac29.30 per half-day, regardless of whether the beneficiary is single or in a couple relationship<\/p>\n<\/div>\r\n\n\n\n

Right to respite<\/h2>\r\n <\/div>\r\n\n\n
\r\n

A \u201cright to respite\u201d allowance is a financial contribution ((\u20ac509.76 in 2022) to enable caregivers to get a needed break from their responsibilities and obtain temporary assistance for the person they care for, in the form of adult day care, respite stays, or in-home care.<\/p>\n<\/div>\r\n\n\n

Donated days off<\/h2>\r\n <\/div>\r\n\n\n
\r\n

Since 2018, employees can donate part of their compensatory or annual paid leave to a coworker who is caring for a dependent loved one. Donating employees must notify their employer that they want to transfer leave to a coworker who is a caregiver and specify the number of days to be donated. Carers must also inform the HR department of their desire to receive donated days of leave<\/p>\n<\/div>\r\n\n\n
