{"id":5315,"date":"2022-09-26T08:35:42","date_gmt":"2022-09-26T06:35:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.axa-eco.votre-projet.com\/?p=5315"},"modified":"2025-11-01T22:21:07","modified_gmt":"2025-11-01T21:21:07","slug":"who-is-providing-caregiving-to-seniors","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.axa-assurancescollectives.fr\/en\/actualites\/who-is-providing-caregiving-to-seniors\/","title":{"rendered":"Who is providing caregiving to seniors ?"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"wysiwyg \">\r\n<p>Each year, October 6 is France\u2019s national day for caregivers: a golden opportunity to learn more about these people who provide regular, frequent care to someone \u2013 often a senior parent or spouse \u2013 who has a disability or is unable to carry out certain activities of daily living.<\/p>\n<\/div>\r\n\n\n<div class=\"space\">\r\n            <div class=\"laptop-only\" style=\"height: 10px\"><\/div>\r\n        <div class=\"mobile-only\" style=\"height: 10px\"><\/div>\r\n    <\/div>\n\n<div class=\"wysiwyg \">\r\n<p>In France, as many as 3.9 million people regularly assist a person aged 60 or older, living in their home, and 720,000 people regularly provide care to someone living in an institution (figures published by the Department of Research, Studies, Evaluation and Statistics, updated on 21 December 2020).<\/p>\n<\/div>\r\n\n\n    <div class=\"pe-section pb-0 pt-0\">\r\n        <h2 class=\"post-title fz-40\" id=\"a-snapshot-of-caregivers-of-seniors\">A snapshot of caregivers of seniors<\/h2>\r\n    <\/div>\r\n\n\n<div class=\"row post-columns\">\r\n    <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.axa-assurancescollectives.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/Aidants-du-milieu-768x512-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" loading=\"lazy\" >    <div class=\"column-content\">\r\n        <p>Caregivers are most often of working age and care for close family members.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>More than one-half (53%) take care of a parent; the average age of caregivers who live with the parentis 54, and the average age of caregivers who do not live with the parent is 51.<\/li>\n<li>More than one-fourth (27.3%) take care of a spouse; their average age is 73.<\/li>\n<li>Other caregivers look after another relative or someone outside their family; their average age is 66.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n                                <\/div>\r\n<\/div>\r\n\n\n<div class=\"space\">\r\n            <div class=\"laptop-only\" style=\"height: 20px\"><\/div>\r\n        <div class=\"mobile-only\" style=\"height: 20px\"><\/div>\r\n    <\/div>\n\n<div class=\"wysiwyg \">\r\n<p>Overall, less than half of caregivers have reached retirement. Among working caregivers, 44% say they have trouble balancing their work and family lives.*<\/p>\n<\/div>\r\n\n\n<div class=\"space\">\r\n            <div class=\"laptop-only\" style=\"height: 10px\"><\/div>\r\n        <div class=\"mobile-only\" style=\"height: 10px\"><\/div>\r\n    <\/div>\n\n    <div class=\"pe-section pb-0 pt-0\">\r\n        <h2 class=\"post-title fz-40\" id=\"how-do-women-and-men-caregivers-differ\">How do women and men caregivers differ?<\/h2>\r\n    <\/div>\r\n\n\n<div class=\"wysiwyg \">\r\n<p>Almost six out of ten caregivers (59.5%) are women.<br \/>\nWomen caregivers primarily help with housekeeping, personal care, paperwork and preparing meals, while men caregivers mainly assist with maintenance and gardening work.<br \/>\nAlmost one out of every two caregivers has felt at least one negative impact of caregiving on their physical or\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.axa-assurancescollectives.fr\/en\/actualites\/long-term-care-can-jeopardize-caregivers-mental-health\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">mental health<\/a>. This figure rises to 64% among caregivers who live with and provide care for a spouse. Husbands seem to have better experiences with caregiving than wives: 54% of caregiving husbands mention a negative impact, versus 73% for caregiving wives.<br \/>\nHelp is available to caregivers from various organisations or even insurers, who can facilitate\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.axa-assurancescollectives.fr\/en\/actualites\/long-term-care-support-to-help-you-carefor-loved-ones\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">respite care<\/a>\u00a0and\/or assist with paperwork.
