{"id":5297,"date":"2024-05-15T15:07:25","date_gmt":"2024-05-15T13:07:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.axa-eco.votre-projet.com\/?p=5297"},"modified":"2025-11-01T22:18:23","modified_gmt":"2025-11-01T21:18:23","slug":"maternity-leave-and-employee-benefits-what-you-should-know","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.axa-assurancescollectives.fr\/en\/actualites\/maternity-leave-and-employee-benefits-what-you-should-know\/","title":{"rendered":"Maternity leave and employee benefits: what you should know"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"wysiwyg \">\r\n<p>During an employee\u2019s maternity leave, special rules apply to the reimbursement of their healthcare costs and the validation of their pension entitlements.<\/p>\n<\/div>\r\n\n\n<div class=\"wysiwyg \">\r\n<p>Employed mothers-to-be are entitled to a maternity leave \u2013 paid for by France\u2019s national health insurance system \u2013 so that that they can take special care of themselves and their babies prior to and after childbirth.<\/p>\n<\/div>\r\n\n\n<div class=\"row post-columns\">\r\n    <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.axa-assurancescollectives.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/shutterstock_663728050-768x559-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" loading=\"lazy\" >    <div class=\"column-content\">\r\n        <p>This maternity leave lasts:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>16 weeks for the family\u2019s first and second child,<\/li>\n<li>26 weeks for the third child,<\/li>\n<li>34 weeks for the birth of twins,<\/li>\n<li>46 weeks for triplets or other multiple births.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Employees on maternity leave have different entitlements regarding their healthcare and pension benefits.<\/p>\n                                <\/div>\r\n<\/div>\r\n\n\n    <div class=\"pe-section pb-0 pt-0\">\n        <h1 class=\"post-title fz-40\" id=\"which-medical-expenses-are-covered\">Which medical expenses are covered?<\/h1>\n    <\/div>\n\n\n<div class=\"wysiwyg \">\r\n<div class=\"wpb_text_column wpb_content_element\">\n<div class=\"wpb_wrapper\">\n<p>As of the sixth month of pregnancy and for 12 days following childbirth, all healthcare costs \u2013 doctor\u2019s fees, medication, exams, etc. \u2013 are fully reimbursed by France\u2019s national health insurance system. This includes costs not related to the pregnancy or the childbirth. Furthermore, third-party payment is the rule during this period, so mothers do not need to advance any payment or wait for reimbursements.<\/p>\n<p>But there are exceptions. Third-party payment does not apply to the portion of doctor\u2019s fees that exceed the government-set rate, costs incurred by having the baby in a private clinic that does not practice the government-set rates, or expenses considered to be \u201cextras\u201d, such as private rooms or television rentals.<\/p>\n<p>Nevertheless, your employer-sponsored health plan may cover all or part of any excess costs or \u201cextras\u201d. One trimester, or quarter, is credited per 90 days of maternity leave, even if contributions are not made during that time (since no contributions are made from the daily allowances received during maternity leave). Ordinarily, to be credited one quarter, an employee must earn the equivalent of 150 hours paid at minimum wage (\u20ac1,522.50 in 2020).<\/p>\n<p>The Agirc-Arrco supplementary pension system, which is points-based, credits \u201cfree\u201d points (not dependent on contributions) if the maternity leave lasts longer than 60 days.<\/p>\n<\/div>\r\n\n\n    <div class=\"pe-section pb-0 pt-0\">\n        <h1 class=\"post-title fz-40\" id=\"this-news-may-interest-you\">This news may interest you<\/h1>\n    <\/div>\n\n\n<div class=\"wysiwyg \">\r\n<h6 style=\"text-align: center\"><em>id you like this article?
